DPN Information: Part 2

The next stage in the evolution of my on-line phone service understanding. These are all great resources and some you have already looked at, but at this point, once you've checked it all out, there's no excuse for you to be out-of-the-loop. Enjoy...

  • DEFINITION: SOURCE OF LONG DISTANCE REDUCTION
    • This is accomplished through the use of web-activated VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). This enables people to use the Internet to initiate local or international long distance telephone calls. Unlike most VoIP systems on the market, DingaLing does not require any special software or equipment. We use VoIP technology to deliver the call to your city, and then inter-connects with the plain telephone system, so that no extra hardware is required.

QUOTE FROM ARTICLE:

"With all the choices for VoIP service now available, it's probably confusing for newbies to figure out what service is best for them. The questions you have to ask yourself, in finding a good rate and service, includes how you'll use VoIP.

Do you plan to call from your computer to another person's computer (PC-to-PC), to their phone (PC-to-PSTN), from your phone to their computer (PSTN-to-PC), or from phone to phone (PSTN-to-PSTN)? (Note: PSTN = Public Switched Telephone Network.)

The cheapest choice, obviously, is free, which PC-to-PC calls tend to be. Your choices at present include Skype, Sightspeed, and Gizmo Project. The latter uses the SIP standard, which means that users of other VoIP SIP-based soft clients can talk to each other across their networks. Clients such as Skype and Sightspeed cannot do that because they use proprietary systems. There are many more choices than those three, but they are the common ones.

For PC-to-PSTN calls, there are services like Babble.net, who have 3-month promo of up to 30 minutes free for calls to certain countries. Skype has this for Canadians and Americans until the end of 2006. For PSTN-to-PC calls, the target person needs to have something like SkypeIn service, which essentially provides a worldwide phone number.

Then there's RebTel, who've made international PSTN-to-PSTN calls very affordable, especially for mobile-to-mobile phone calls. Jajah also offers a combination of free call options, including PSTN-to-PSTN, and is based on the SIP open standard. Possibly to compete with providers such as Babble and RebTel, Skype is currently offering free weekends in July for calls to certain countries.

You can also use the free VoIP capabilities of some IM (Instant Messaging) soft clients such as Google Talk, MSN Messenger, etc., but they are strictly PC-to-PC and are client-specific.

These are just some options available right now. Keep in mind that most of them currently have poor to no support for emergency calling."

  • 6. This uses Jaja…as does the one previous to this one…
      • Good for recruiters in Australia. But they charge for using the phone-call service

  • 8. Oh and now I see a new contrast….

….So there’s popularity with # protection and connection! We see the need, but how do we create our own Niche for that need? Lets continue digging around.

  • 9. September 27, 2007 Jajah launches a solution named "Jajah Buttons" which enables small businesses or individuals to embed buttons on their Web sites to allow others to contact them by phone using the company's Internet telephony platform. Jajah Buttons caused a notable controversy when eBay removed and banned such buttons from auction listings in eBay's site, presumably to protect revenues from its own VOIP solution provided by Skype. What’s the JAJAH “Fair Use” Policy ?
What’s the JAJAH “Fair Use” Policy ? The JAJAH Fair Use Policy allows us to offer free calling to our users. To provide the maximum number of free minutes to the most users, JAJAH must balance the cost of free calls with the revenue we receive from paid services (such as paid calls, text messages, scheduled calling, and conference calls). To preserve this balance, JAJAH sometimes limits free calling minutes on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
JAJAH asks its customers to pay from time to time. If you choose not to pay, JAJAH may need to limit your free minutes. To take advantage of free minutes, users should deposit funds into their JAJAH account.

EBay hung up on an Internet startup company on Thursday: Mountain View, Calif.-based Internet phone company Jajah got huffy on Thursday when eBay (nasdaq: EBAY - news - people ) removed the startup's new call-enabling buttons from its auction listings. EBay said the buttons violate the company's policy of linking to outside communications channels so as to protect eBay users from fraud.

“Lets’ say if you meet someone and the only information you have about them, is their email address. You can go to Jangl website, and enter their email address. The Jangl system assigns them a temporary phone number, and allows you to leave them a voice mail message, which is then forwarded to their email inbox. They can choose to call you back, using Jangl assigned temporary number. You can do the same with someone’s instant messaging identity as well.”

  • 14. Competitors… From Jangl’s business perspective, it is part of Jangl’s evolution as a voice services company, moving beyond the anonymous calling (which is paying some of the bills right now.) It also allows the company to compete with Jaxtr and Wengo in the social networking/social media space.

  • 16. An advice service, using this phone service to make calls cheaper and the niche is social networking/media, based on finding the right advice.

This sight is the sh*t! No question…okay fine, now back to the task as hand…

    • GrandCentral…
      • *Well, it’s still pretty new. I think they are the #1 priority for me right now!!!!!

  • 23. Free phone services are multiplying
